Specialty Areas: Adolescent Psychiatry, Mindfulness-based Psychotherapy
Seema Desai, M.D., a board certified psychiatrist, currently serves as assistant unit chief of Inpatient Adolescent Psychiatric services at Bellevue Hospital Center. She is co-director of the adolescent substance abuse workgroup at Bellevue Hospital center. Dr. Desai has a particular research interest in the clinical applications of mindfulness and spirituality in psychiatry.
Dr. Desai received her B.A. in anthropology and Hispanic and Italian studies at Johns Hopkins University and her M.D. from Georgetown University. She completed adult psychiatry residency training at University of California at Irvine with a specialty track in integral psychiatry. Dr. Desai served as chief resident during her child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at Harbor UCLA Medical Center. She also completed a self-directed fellowship in mind body medicine in India.
Prior to joining the faculty at NYU Langone Medical Center, Dr. Desai was a staff psychiatrist at Lenox Hill Hospital. She has also served as an international mental health consultant for medical camps and non-profit organizations in India.
Dr. Desai has experience in leading mindfulness-based skills groups for stress reduction and wellness.
