Kristel Thomassin, MA

Clinical Psychology Intern

Kristel Thomassin is a clinical psychology intern and serves on clinical staff of both the Child Study Center and Bellevue Hospital center where she conducts initial, diagnostic evaluations and provides ongoing treatment through a number of our services. Ms. Thomassin's clinical interests include childhood internalizing disorders, as well as the role of emotion regulation in childhood problems such as self-harm behaviors. She works with children and families from a family systems perspective using a variety of therapeutic techniques. Ms. Thomassin's research interests include the ways in which parents socialize emotion in youth, specifically, the unique ways in which mothers and fathers contribute to the emotion socialization process.

Ms. Thomassin is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in clinical psychology at University of Georgia, where she also received her master's degree in clinical psychology. She has received a number of honors including the Dissertation Completion Award when she successfully defended her dissertation, The Role of the Interparental Process in Emotion Socialization. Ms. Thomassin received her bachelor's degree in psychology with high honors distinction, summa cum laude, from Vanderbilt University.

Ms. Thomassin is a member of the Society for Research in Child Development, the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies, and the American Psychological Association. She has presented her research on parental emotion socialization at numerous national conferences, co-authored book chapters on Emotional Regulation in Youth with Anxiety Disorder, and has published twelve articles in peer-reviewed journals.
