
Samara M. Ahmed, MD, is a resident in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Child Study Center at NYU Langone Medical Center. Dr. Ahmed's interests include the cultural aspect of mental illness, electroconvulsive therapy treatment, and substance abuse in adolescent.
Dr. Ahmed received her undergraduate and medical degree from King Abdul Aziz University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. She spent two years of residency in the Pediatrics department, but her lifelong dream of pursuing a child psychiatry program propelled her to come to the United States. She completed her training in adult psychiatry at Tufts University Medical Center in Boston, MA.
Dr. Ahmed started volunteering at the Jeddah orphanage at the age of 14 and after graduating from the medical college, spent ten hours a week volunteering at the clinic. She is a member of Saudi Society for Welfare of Women where she focuses on societal cognizance for the mental health and general welfare of women in Saudi society. Dr. Ahmed was also a member of Big Sister Association where she mentored children with autism.
During her tenure at Tufts Medical School, Dr. Ahmed was the recipient of the 2010 teaching award. Dr. Ahmed also participated in ethics grand rounds where she was part of a Compassionate Care Program designed to improve the quality of patient care.
