Colleen O'Neal, Ph.D.

Colleen O'Neal, Ph.D., is an Associate Research Scientist in the Institute for Prevention Science at the NYU Child Study Center. Dr. O'Neal primarily works on Building Blocks, a study focusing on early primary prevention of conduct problems; and ParentCorps, a prevention program involving public schools and communities to promote social and academic competence and prevent conduct problems in preschoolers living in socio-economically disadvantaged neighborhoods. She also assesses emotional socialization patterns and the impact of preventive intervention on emotion socialization among inner city families. In addition, she does clinical and community work with parents and teachers in low-income communities of Brooklyn participating in ParentCorps and TeacherCorps.

Dr. O'Neal earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Clinical Psychology at Long Island University (Brooklyn campus). She earned her M.S. in Family and Child Development from Auburn University and her B.A. in Psychology from Cornell University.

Prior to joining the NYU Child Study Center, Dr. O'Neal completed a postdoctoral fellowship at NYU under a National Institute of Mental Health training grant in the field of mental health statistics.

Dr. O'Neal is a member of the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues, the American Psychological Association, the Society for Research in Child Development, and the New York State Psychology Association.
