As the Director of Research and Public Psychiatry Administration, Betsy Howard manages all administrative aspects of both the research and the public psychiatry mission areas of the Child Study Center. Working closely with the Vice Chairs for Research and for Public Psychiatry she is responsible for strategic planning and implementation of new program initiatives in both areas and alsooversees recruitment, hiring, and promotions for both faculty and staff. In the research realm, her administrative responsibilities include oversight of pre-award grant submissions, research compliance reporting, post-award grant management, restricted gift accounting and oversight of the NYU Child Study Center’s annual $8 million research budget. In public psychiatry, she manages all aspects of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry affiliation relationship with Bellevue Hospital Center as well as a variety of research and program initiatives supported by gifts and grants.
Prior to joining the NYU Child Study Center, Betsy spent nearly twenty years working in a variety of administrative, analytic and strategic planning roles in health care and academic medicine, working in both provider and industry roles. Her previous experiences include life science consulting at The Wilkerson Group (serving pharmaceutical, device and provider organizations, strategic planning at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and department administration (Department of Medicine) at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Betsy holds MBA and MPH degrees from Columbia University and a BA in sociology and community health delivery from Tufts University.
