Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) Training Workshop

ADOS Training

Overview of ADOS

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) is a uniform observation to assess behaviors related to Autism Spectrum Disorders. Designed by Catherine Lord, Ph.D., and her colleagues, the ADOS provides standardized information about the diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorders in social behavior, speech/vocalizations, and gestures. The ADOS utilizes a semi-structured assessment of communication, social interaction, and imaginative play for individuals who may have Autism Spectrum Disorders. These structured activities provide a context in which social interactions, communications, and other behaviors relevant to Autism Spectrum Disorders can be observed.

The ADOS is used by professionals who are familiar with Autism Spectrum Disorders and knowledgeable of working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders as well as experienced in clinical assessments. The ADOS has been given by clinical psychologists, school psychologists, speech/language pathologists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, social workers, graduate students, and other Autism specialists. Clinicians and researchers interested in using the ADOS for clinical or research purposes begin their preparation by attending the ADOS Training Workshops.

ADOS Training Workshops

The ADOS Training Workshop for Clinicians is intended for clinicians interested in an introduction to the ADOS and is also a first step for researchers in the process for establishing reliability in the assessment. It uses a mixture of large group lecture, demonstrations, and a live administration of the evaluation to introduce the basic principles of administrating and scoring the ADOS.
