Some boys prefer to play the roles of girls and vice versa. Some children feel more comfortable with peers of the opposite sex, or may frequently cross-dress. Others may be exploring their sexual orientation, or seeking to understand the sexual or gender identity of their parents or siblings. The Gender and Sexuality Service, directed by Aron Janssen, MD, provides evaluations and therapeutic services for children, adolescents and their families.

We work with children and their families on:
•    Behaviors considered at variance with generally-accepted gender roles
•    Sexual identity issues
•    Gender identity issues
•    Assessments for puberty suppression and cross-gendered hormone treatments
•    Psychosocial aspects of Disorders of Sex Development (DSD), also known as intersex conditions (congenital genital variations)
•    Co-occurring mental health disorders among children and teens in the above categories
