Among the criteria of the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-IV) for a diagnosis of Generalized Anxiety Disorder, the child’s anxiety must cause significant distress or impairment in daily life, must have shown excessive anxiety and worry, occurring more days than not for at least six months, about a number of events or activities. The anxiety and worry are associated with at least three of the symptoms (one for children) listed above.
