Helping Kids Cope: The Tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School Interactive Workshop

Beyond those most closely affected, tragedies radiate outward and impact friends, schools, communities and to some degree, all of us, as we help children try to understand this loss of life.

The Child Study Center's Stress Trauma and Resilience Team hosted a no cost, interactive group workshop for parents entitled, "Helping Children Cope: Talking to Your Kids About Sandy Hook" on Thursday, December 20th, 2012 at The Child Study Center's Park Avenue location.

In this workshop participants learned how to:

  • Talk to your kids about what happened
  • Identify warning signs of stress
  • Help create a sense of safety
  • Develop tools for longterm coping

The Child Study Center is part of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN), whose mission is to raise the standard of care and improve access to services for traumatized children, their families and communities throughout the United States.

Registration is highly encouraged via email to csc.intake@nyumc.org
