Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison Service

The Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation-Liaison Service provides inpatient and outpatient psychiatric consultation, evaluation, and treatment of medically ill children and adolescents at NYU's Tisch Hospital, Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine and Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.

The goals of the service are to help children and their families cope and adjust to acute and chronic medical illness, assess and manage anxiety and emotional pain, identify psychopathology when present, and work with our pediatric colleagues to make appropriate treatment recommendations.

The following are some of the areas in which we provide expertise:

  • Evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents with complex medical & psychiatric problems
  • Behavioral interventions for pain management and anxiety related to medical procedures
  • Assistance for children and adolescents who are having difficulties following their medical treatment regimens
  • Enhancement of coping and resilience factors for families and children when a child becomes medically ill
