Dr. Jennifer Havens Speaks on The Impact of Trauma on Families
On June 11th, Dr. Jennifer Havens spoke at a conference entitled The Impact of Trauma on Children and Families: Moving Toward Resilience through Trauma Informed Care. The conference was sponsored by the New York Center for Children (NYCC) in association with NYC Administration for Children's Services (ACS) and Prevent Child Abuse America and held at The Children's Center in Manhattan. ACS Commissioner Ronald Richter gave opening remarks, and the conference was supported by the New York State Unified Court System Child Welfare Improvement Project.
The New York City Administration for Children’s Services protects New York City’s children from abuse and neglect. Along with our community partners, Children’s Services provides neighborhood-based services to help ensure children grow up in safe, permanent homes with strong families.
The New York Center for Children is a free clinic dedicated to evaluating and healing victims of child abuse and their families, as well as providing abuse prevention resources and educational programs.
Prevent Child Abuse America works to ensure the healthy development of children nationwide through a network of chapters in 50 states and over 500 Healthy Families America home visitation sites in 41 states, all the territories, Puerto Rico and Canada. A major organizational focus is to advocate for the existence of a national policy framework and strategy for children and families while promoting evidence-based practices that prevent abuse and neglect from ever occurring.(June 13, 2013)
