The Event
The Seventh Annual Child Advocacy Award Dinner, benefiting the NYU Child Study Center, was held on Monday, December 6, 2004 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. This annual benefit supports the research and clinical services of the Center, which offers expert psychiatric care for children and adolescents with mental health problems. This year's honoree was the Honorable Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of the City of New York for his work to improve the lives of children and young adults.
With nearly 50 research programs within our eight Institutes, the Center's scientists are working on building the science to improve prevention and treatment of psychiatric illness in children. Through our research we hope to change the face of child mental health by creating more effective methods for prevention, identification and treatment of psychiatric illness in children and adolescents.
Over the past six years, the Center has honored many advocates for child and adolescent mental health issues including Senator Jon S. Corzine and Joanne Corzine; Governor George Pataki; Whoopi Goldberg; Lawrence Summers; President of Harvard University, Rudolph Giuliani, and David Satcher, M.D., Ph.D., former Surgeon General of the United States.
The New York University Child Study Center is dedicated to increasing the awareness of child mental health issues and improving the treatment of child psychiatric illnesses through scientific practice, research and education. Our key goals include increasing the body of scientific knowledge of child mental illness; eliminating the stigma of being or having a child with a psychiatric disorder; improving the practices of professionals serving children and influencing child-related public policy.
