Introduction

The NYU School Partnership is an ongoing collaboration between the NYU Child Study Center and the private, public, and parochial schools of the New York City metropolitan area. Its goal is threefold: to disseminate essential mental health information and promote effective evidence-based treatment throughout the school systems, to address the mental health needs of children and their school communities, and in turn, to bring the needs and concerns of the schools back to the mental health and research communities. The Partnership is the first New York school-based mental health program sponsored by a major academic medical center. The Child Study Center provides trained child psychologists and child and adolescent psychiatrists to educate school administrators, teachers, school psychologists, school social workers, guidance counselors and nurses to recognize high-risk students and how to manage this population in a main-stream educational setting. The following programs are conducted as part of the NYU School partnership.

Children’s Mental Health: The Sunny and Abe Rosenberg Lecture Series

The Sunny and Abe Rosenberg Lecture Series are free professional development seminars that provide school-based practitioners updates on recent advances in children's mental health. The seminars are designed to help professionals of all disciplines develop a common framework for understanding and addressing some of the major challenges to student well-being and adjustment. Each presentation pairs a mental health professional specializing in the topic area with an educator with related experience and includes a review of best-practice guidelines for the school setting. Special emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary approaches using "real-life" cases to highlight key issues.
