NYU Child Study Center Receives Research Grant from the National Tourette Syndrome Association - March 6, 2009
Dr. Vilma Gabbay, M.D. and Dr. Barbara Coffey, M.D. M.S., of the New York University Child Study Center has received a research award from the national Tourette Syndrome Association (TSA). With one of 15 distinguished research grant awards, Drs. Gabbay and Coffey's research will focus on the role of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in Tourette's Disorder.
Dr. Barbara Coffey with co-principal investigator Douglas Woods, Ph.D. of the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, received a second year of funding for a study that serves to compare effects of a stimulant medication and a placebo in facilitation of behaviorally reinforced tic suppression in children and adolescents with Tourette's Disorder and comorbid Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

The NYU Child Study Center is pleased to announce that F. Xavier Castellanos, M.D. and Barbara Coffey, M.D., M.S., are each the recipients of one of 21 distinguished research grant awards, each in the amount of $75,000 per year, from the National Tourette Syndrome Association (TSA).
The TSA grant to Coffey, and co-principal investigator Douglas Woods, Ph.D. of the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee, will support research on evaluation and will compare the effects of a stimulant medication and a placebo in facilitation of behaviorally reinforced tic suppression in children and adolescents with Tourette's Disorder and comorbid Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
